| Art has always been an important part of my life. After God and family, it is the next in line of "a love" to me. I believe that My Heavenly Father placed that desire in my heart. At times I still wonder why. But, when I teach a class, especially of beginners, who get so excited about something they have created, then I can feel HIS love with us in that class. I realize these folks and I might never have met, but for art. And when I am painting "Plein aire" and am in the midst of HIS wonderful creations in nature, I have such peace and go into a meditative state. It is then that I have the confirmation, "the why", of the love of art instilled deep within me. I believe that HE wants us to reach / teach people to look at HIS creations more closely. That we are used to help open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds us daily. Especially in the midst of the ugliness that is in the world. The rush of our lives in daily living cause us to be blind to so much around us, be it nature or people in our lives that need us. That saying "Stop and Smell the Roses" has such meaning to me, because of art in my life. I hope you can see my statement of my art in my paintings. Regardless of the subject...HE is the creator of all. HE gave the idea to any creator of anything...be it a jar, vase, cloth, in a still life, or a portrait of a person, an animal, a landscape, a car..whatever was created for our use. |
I have been interested in art since I was a child. But was guided to pursue education in secretarial work..which I hated. So as a young woman with 3 children, I went back to school for an Associates Degree in Fine Arts. That was over 35 years ago. I have pursued art since then. I returned for more education in graphic design and animation about twenty years later after being exposed to that field in a workshop. I achieved a second Associates Degree for graphics and animation. I have taken workshops with various nationally known artists, and have taught workshops in pastel, acrylics, and watercolor. I love using the computer and I often use it to work out compositions and have generated artworks on handmade paper on the computer. Although, my first love is painting "Plein air". Which I have been doing for over 30 years. My subject matter ranges from portraits, landscapes, animals, still life handmade paper, and monotypes, in pastel, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. People ask me what is my favorite medium and subject matter, my answer is always, "Whatever I am working in at that time". Art is such wonderful therapy. When you are painting or creating you can think of nothing else, because you are constantly making decisions so your focus is on your creation completely. |
